5K Race

Saturday 11th May 2024

We are pleased to advise the Ipswich Twilight 5k races will be returning this year with our new sponsor, ABP.  This event takes place at the Ipswich Waterfront and follows a looped two-lap course including waves for all ability 5k runners.  The event will take place on Saturday 11th May 2024.

10K Race

Friday 26th July 2024

The Ensors Ipswich Twilight 10k is one the region’s biggest and best-supported 10k races, attracting runners of all ages and abilities.

For 2024, the event will once again start and finish among the appropriately sporty surroundings of Portman Road, home to Ipswich’s newly-promoted Championship side. The race follows a winding route from the stadium through Ipswich’s main shopping area and around its historic centre, passing landmarks such as the Corn Exchange and Town Hall on the way.

A much-anticipated summer event, the Ensors Ipswich Twilight 10k is always warmly supported by spectators, who turn out in their hundreds to cheer on competitors as they weave their way through the town.

There are two other supporting events on the racing schedule – the Suffolk Schools mass participation Daily Mile and the Ensors Family Wave. These shorter races are designed to appeal to younger runners and to family groups.

History

The Ipswich Building Society Twilight Road Races first hit the streets on a Friday evening in August 2015, organised by Ipswich JAFFA Running Club. The event was the brainchild of Carl Ashton. He was Race Director and retained the majority of his original core team until 2019. The vision was to put on town centre races, which hadn’t happened in Ipswich for 30 years. Carl said at the time

“I had heard that the club previously wanted a town centre race, a 10k. I wanted to put on an event that gave us that but also tried to build some national profile for us. There are lots of 10k’s around but very few good quality road 5k’s. I thought ‘well why don’t we do both’. To attract the elites’ costs money so a business model was created where the 10k effectively funds the 5k”.

FAQs

Got a burning question about Ipswich Twilight races? Hopefully, you will find the answers in our FAQs below:

1. How old do I need to be to enter the races?

With the exception of the Family Wave and Daily Mile, you must be at least 11 years old on the day of the race to enter the 5k or 15 to enter the 10k. Please note that parental consent is required for all under 18’s and entry to the race implies that this has been granted.

2. When is the closing date for the races?

The closing date for entries for the 10k race will close on the day of the event, or when the race limit has been reached.

3. I’ve entered the race but can no longer come. Can I get a refund?

Entry fees are non-refundable. Entries cannot be deferred or transferred. Your entry will only be valid for the event you enter.

4. I’ve applied for the races but my contact details have changed. Do I need to inform you?

If your postal address, email address or telephone number changes, please inform the race office as soon as possible via twilight10k@ipswichjaffa.org.uk

5. Can I listen to music as I run?

The use of personal stereos and MP3 players, or similar devices, is prohibited and use of such devices will lead to disqualification. Mobile phone running apps may be used at your own risk (without headphones/earphones) but we recommend that mobile devices are carried in an appropriate arm holder.

6. How many races are there on the day?

The following waves will be available:

  • Daily Mile (for invited schools only)
  • Family Fun Run (2k)
